Reader's Review: Exquisitely funny yet poignant.

This book is extremely clever and well executed. My daughter read it and told me how wonderful it is and that I should read it. I devoured it in a couple sittings as it is the sort of memoir you find yourself instantly enveloped in, immediately rooting for Kimberlee. There is nothing more attractive than someone who looks at themselves - flaws, warts and all - with a sense of humor. As a mother with a daughter I found the material about Kimberlee and her mom fascinating. Interestingly, I met the author weeks later, after finishing the book and can say she is just as charming, intelligent and unique in person as she seems on paper, a young woman whose talents augur well for a great future. This book is a natural to be snapped up for a series for either HBO or Showtime, it's that entertaining, that good, that rich in material - and if I were a Darren Star-type producer, I would snap up the rights! I love the idea that she goes into a tarot reading ostensibly to gain insight into her future - but learns instead where she has come from, how far, despite the adversity, she has traveled - and how to let go so she may bask in her current life. Too many of us dwell on obsessing about what the future holds and thus do not pay enough attention to the rich joys of daily life. Every day, every hour is a gift and it is clear, by the end of Kimberlee's memoir that she has come to understand and embrace that.

Reader's Review: Great read, great gift!

I will be giving copies of this book to several friends over the holidays. It's the kind of read that makes you say both, "I can't believe that happened to her!" and "Oh my god, I've been there!"

The tarot cards serve as a window into the various challenges and opportunities in all of our lives, while giving breath to Auerbach's unique voice. Every story is rich, engaging, laugh-out-loud funny, and sometimes even heartbreaking. As other reviewers have mentioned, the 80s references are delicious and the book is so tough to put down!
