I am a doctoral student in psychology and practicing school psychologist. This book is an excellent source of information pertaining to bi-polar in children. I work exclusively with children and have gained critical knowledge from this book.
Also, I had a copy sent to my daughter. Her son is presently being evaluated for mental health services. This book has helped her enormously in understanding what is happening with her son. He is six years old and started showing signs at the age of 4; within the past 6 months, he has had significant increases in symptoms. The psychologist and psychiatrist that she had gone to were saying ADHD and depression. With the knowledge she gained from this book and my guidance, she was able to intelligently discuss bi-polar with the professionals. She refused medications for ADHD and depression (Zoloft) and came to an agreement to begin a trial of a medication used primarily for Bi-polar. The psychiatrist told her that he was hesitant to diagnose a child with bi-polar and that is why he was prescribing the meds for the depression rather than treating the entirety of his symptoms. Obviously, he is not informed about appropriately treating children with bi-polar! My daughter is taking the advise from the book and seeking a psychiatrist who is better suited to work with children with bi-polar.
I am soooo thankful for this book.

As a parent of a Bipolar child this book has helped me to see that i wan't the one causing his rages and self abuse. I only wish i had known about this book when my son was growing up. I would have felt less guilty. There is so much good information about IEP's and meeting with teachers that would have been so useful while he was in school. It's a valuable tool for any parent whose child is suffering from this disorder. You are not alone.
