I am touched by this latest creation of Sheri Rosenthal. It is great having such a wealth of information in one book! I began reading it on my way to Teotihuacan recently and it prepared me for my journey. And I would like to add:
"Teacher, I try and try to transcend my dull boorish buffoonish being but, alas, it is to no avail. Nothing changes. The Supreme Court inside my head has been in session for an
eternity! The testimony never ceases. They won't even break for lunch. Oh, the judgments, the judgments! Yo es muy estupido! My perceptions of Truth remain stymied. Enlightenment hovers just out of reach, like halo 'round yonder moon. If a movie were to be shot entitled "Dunces with Wolves," I would undoubtedly be cast in the lead role.
"Yes, and you would be wonderful! Always do your best."
"Yes, it is so true! I am such an idiot! Is there nothing this hapless unworthy apprentice can do?"
"You must love your idiot," replied the teacher, calmly.
"What? Love my idiot? But I hate my idiot!"
"Love your idiot," she said again.
"How?" The apprentice was truly baffled.
"Does your idiot like books?"
"What?" The student's brow furrowed in obvious befuddlement.
The teacher smiled. "Perhaps your idiot would like a book lovingly written especially for idiots. Why it even has 'idiot' in the title."
"Where can I find this book of books for my idiot?"
"It is called, 'The Idiot's Guide to Toltec Wisdom' and you can order it on Amazon.com."
In the background a chant rose up from a group of crazy anglos congregating at an altar at the base of the Pyramid of the Sun. The warm gentle Mexican breeze strained beneath the heavy voices, but with an audible groan, managed to lift the insufferable incantations high above to the ears of teacher and apprentice:
"I am remembering the idiot I am, I am remembering the idiot I am."
At that moment it appeared a light came on in the student's mind, and although less than the equivalent of 15 watts, it was sufficient illumination to ignite and excite a long dormant imagination and cause a shift in perception that was no less than moderately astounding.
"Thank you, teacher! I will order it on my laptop right now, for I am living in this moment!"
A passing vendor leaned over, holding the dusty replica of an ancient artifact. "Senor, for you, today," he whispered, "almost free."
"No, I'm not," replied the apprentice, never glancing up, typing furiously. "But I will be after I get this book!"
As an avid reader of Carlos Castaneda's books for many years, I read and reread every one attempting to glean what lessons I could. Unfortunately I was never able to develop a comprehensive personal approach for applying those lessons to my daily life in a meaningful way.
In The Complete Idiot's Guide to Toltec Wisdom Sheri Rosenthal has distilled those many and varied teachings into one practical, easy to understand and implement, and inspiring guide. She presents the Toltec teachings in such a clear and logical manner that anyone, whether on the path or not, can use her book as a framework to add meaning and happiness to their everyday lives.
If you're searching for a guide to help you find peace, happiness, and freedom; congratulations - you've found it. Thanks Sheri!
