This book will teach anyone how to defend themselves! Those taking Krav Maga classes who want supplemental reading to deepen their practice and training regime will also benefit from this instructional book. Krav Maga is empowering and an intense, calorie burning workout. It could be used just to improve fitness and the way the body looks, or it can be used on another level as a way to defend yourself in real life violent situations.
The introduction does a very good job giving a history of Krav Maga, and defining the philosophy behind its practice. The authors do this without bogging the reader down with too much background information. The introduction will also appeal to women as Krav Maga is a fighting technique that does not require the fighter to be larger or physically stronger than their opponent. In fact Krav Maga is predicated on the need for unarmed, and often outnumbered, fighters to have a technique that will work for the "underdog".
The book, like Krav Maga itself, encompasses a lot of fitness techniques. This includes a considerable amount of yoga poses - used very effectively to emphasize flexibility and core strength. The book does an excellent job breaking down and explaining every topic broached by the authors. For example, the book does not merely provide shadow boxing exercises, but it also details the benefits and disadvantages of shadow boxing to your success as a fighter. Photographs are clear and well utilized in conjunction with explanatory text. Many, but not all, of the exercise and routines will require equipment (punching bag, medicine ball, mitts) and a partner.
The Everything Krav Maga book is an inspiring method for learning self defense. I learned from the book that it was developed by a man being victimized in World War II Europe, and later used to train the Israeli army. After reading the introduction, it dawned on me that it is also the perfect self defense technique for women - who are so often subjected to violence, often by their husbands or people that they know. It is a method based on fighting without the benefit of weapons or size. Anybody, regardless of your physical size, can learn how to be a good fighter using the Krav Maga technique. I found this book to be a perfect introduction, and ongoing training manual, for Krav Maga. The book introduces you to all aspects of the technique, and understanding its background and philosophy is integral to the actual combat techniques. I don't think you could have a book on the real Krav Maga without discussing the philosophy to it. This text does a fantastic job teaching the fundamentals. They also include lots of hands on practice techniques with photographs that demonstrate the techniques in action. The book ends with technique drills, fatigue drills, and reaction drills, as well as full workout routines. It also includes stretching and the workouts will sculpt the body nicely. It will give you really hot legs, gluts and abs! I've noticed my body change after doing the workouts regularly. The three authors have varied experience with Krav Maga, which is why the book covers a wide range of ways to approach the technique. I thought this made the book strong. This book will teach you everything you need to know to fight using the Krav Maga technique.
