I am a trained linguist, but Friedman's ingenuity and delight with language far exceeds my own. His 17 techniques for uncovering hidden meanings have lent themselves to many a d'var Torah in my household, and the examples alone make the book worth reading.
Many students have all but given up trying to understand Torah concepts and Teachings. The Rabbis talk in riddles and you must have a "Chavrusa" or Rabbi to understand Torah, Mishna, Gemora, Psalms. I found this book to be direct and clear when explaining difficult concepts and decrees by God. I reccommend this writing to novice and learned alike since I found clairfication on several items that I thought I had down pat. I did not find any other books by this author. Let's hope he is just getting started and that we will merit to read his other works as he matures.
