Jews of the Saharan Oasis by John O. Hunwick analyses the issues and situations that lead up to the destruction of the Jewish commuinity in the oasis of Tementit. This book gives really detailed background information also on how the fatwa that was being pushed by Muhammid al-Maghili caused the disruption of the Jewish communities in Northern Africa and West Africa. Details are culled from texts such as the Tarikh el-Fettash and the Tarikh el-Soudan as well as other sources from Islamic writers. It gives a detailed look at the methods that were used to convince the varoius Islamic controlled cities that the Jews in the region had breached the laws of the ahl al-thimmi. Anyone who is looking for details about the Jewish community in Northern Africa and in Mali will find some details, but this book mainly deals with why they disappeared. I would recommend this book for any Jewish library, Yeshivah, and Synagogue.
