I have read this book with an utmost interest. It contains very useful information and inside stories of the turbulent years of republican history of Turkey and not only. Having close contacts with prominent political and business leaders of his time Mr. Kaylan provides a meticulous covering of important historic and political events. It is noteworthy though that some insights and information are repeated over and over again in the book, there are some editorial mistakes and misspellings too.
There are two important remarks about the book though. This book has a wrong title, which is certainly a deceiving and inappropriate one. I bought this book with a hope to find information and analysis on Kemalist discourse in Turkey, but the content was the personal story and biography of Mr. Kaylan! The best suitable title of the book could have been "The memories and thoughts of a Kemalist journalist". Second and the most important thing missing in the book is the author's attitude towards the Armenian Genocide. The reason that I am underlining it is that he makes himself clear and covers almost all the known problems of Turkey, but neglects or ignores that utterly important question. Other than these rather necessary remarks the books is worth reading.
