REVOLUTION IN WORLD MISSIONS is not really a book that is anything new in the sense of adding to world missions. What it is is a biblical view of how God intended the Church to do missions in the first place! The gospel was not a Jewish message or a Gentile message but was "the gospel of God" (Romans 1:1). It is the message of the cross of Christ (1 Corinthians 1:18) and is "the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes" (Romans 1:16 NIV). When the early Church took the gospel throughout the Roman Empire, they did so by proclaiming Christ and Him crucified (1 Cor. 2:1-5) and allowing the Holy Spirit to do His work from there (John 16:8-11). They did not bring their Jewish culture or Gentile cultures but they brought the gospel of Jesus Christ (Acts 10:34-38).
In this work, K.P. Yohannan (founder of Gospel for Asia) reveals how biblically important it is to give to native missionaries rather than sending American or Western missionaires into the various nations of the 10/40 window. He shows how one native missionary can do more for the kingdom of God then by sending an expensive Western missionary. The language, culture, and ethic barriers are not an issue with native missionaries and so Gospel for Asia seeks to support native missionaries in third world nations through the support of the Western Church.
This book is clearly an eye-opener for those who have never read much about world missions. For those interested in becoming a missionary, you might want to consider reading this book first before heading off to missionary training. I do pray that we do see a revolution in world misssions soon! We are wasting time and money!
This book opens one's eyes as to where Christianity is at in the United States, compared to the real mission: spreading the Gospel to all the people in the world who have not yet heard. Forget summer camp, couples retreats, music concerts, over-eating, Christian bumper stickers and t-shirts....What's with all this materialism in Christianity? Let's get the Word out. The missionaries in Asia are real men and women of God, doing what has to be done. K.P.'s stories are inspiring...one that I recall is how a shaman summoned demons to go into a pastor's house, but they couldn't, because the demons said that the pastor's house had this tremendous light! We should all have that light in our midst. K.P. also tells of how he met his wife Gisela. What a "cute" story; utterly charming! I'm so glad (and blessed) to have come across this book.
