I had read THE HIDING PLACE by Corrie ten Boom back in the tenth grade, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Just recently, my interest in Corrie ten Boom resurfaced, and I found myself wondering, "What happened AFTER she was released from the concentration camp?" I picked up a copy of TRAMP FOR THE LORD, and read straight through in just a couple days. The book answered my question.
TRAMP FOR THE LORD starts off right where THE HIDING PLACE ends, with Corrie ten Boom returning to Holland, and searching out her new mission in post-prison life. She turns to globe-trotting the world and spreading her story and the love of Jesus with everyone she meets. The stories she tells in this book in 35 little chapters adds up to an amazing adventure that will leave you wanting more. Corrie spent almost 20 years traveling the world, and she has a lot of amazing stories and insights in life to share.
So, if you're looking for some encouragement, a great read, or something to work through devotionally, TRAMP FOR THE LORD is a great book. (Also, the ending chapter sets up IN MY FATHER'S HOUSE perfectly. That book details the events of Corrie's life leading up to THE HIDING PLACE. Check it out as well!)
This book is the sequel to "The Hiding Place". (Corrie and her family hid Jews during WWII. They were caught...Corrie's father and sister died, but Corrie survived and was eventually released from the concentration camp.)
After the war, Corrie started travelling the world sharing her Christian faith. She became a "Tramp for the Lord"! Each chapter of this book "stands alone" and tells of a different experience she had as she travelled...Each chapter is also based on specific Bible verses. It is almost "devotional" in how it reads...In fact, you really could read one chapter a day and make this your daily devotional reading for awhile!
This book was inspiring, encouraging, and motivating...It shows the powerful way Jesus can use someone when their heart is truly committed to Him. I recommend it!
