Successfully capturing a tone of meditative reflectance, Soul Food speaks of harmony with the earth and nature, implicitly regarding Mother Earth as everyone's family member.
The book is laid out with each chapter, being the title of each of the 13 "moons" of an ancient calendar that is central to the book. This lunar time schedule--not the one of man's arbitrary whimsy--belongs to the seasons of earth itself. And this is the basic tenet of Soul Food; communing with nature on it's own terms for "... a more natural and spirit-filled lifestyle." Accordingly, for each day, there is nearly a page of meditational reading, which can be read, in no particular order.
Much to it's merit, this is a book of insightful observation, arousing a curiosity and awareness for the subtle qualities of daily life that would go unnoticed when living the nature-starved, fast-forward pace of "progress."
Soul Food can be just the right break time that is missing for those who need to slow down and regain their balance. As a perfect timeout, this is surely an extollment for meditation itself. Within the pages/meditations, is a safe place of warm welcome, that offers sensible wisdom, grounding and centering. A satisfying book for doing just that.
