Aikido
The Essence of Aikido: Spiritual Teachings of Morihei Ueshiba
For the first time in English, The Essence of Aikido presents the profound philosophy of Aikido in Morihei's own words, disclosing many of the arcane secrets of Aikido's aims and methods. Considered by many to be the greatest martial artist and spiritual teacher of the twentieth century, Morihei provides a wealth of clues to the often puzzling nature of the inseparable link between the physical and spiritual aspects of Aikido, revealing the heart of the peaceful warrior's art.

Jeet Kune Do
Tao of Jeet Kune Do
by Bruce Lee
...Here is proof that this man was amazing mentally as well as physically. Not only did he have the spirit of a dragon, he had its wisdom as well. These notes are only the tip of Lee's iceberg. All his years of training led to what was written in this book, and his techniques were still growing and improving right up until his untimely death.
"The point is the doing of them rather than the accomplishments. There is no actor but the action; there is no experiencer but the experience."

Bruce Lee's Fighting Method : Basic Training (Volume 2) by Bruce Lee
Judo
Kodokan Judo by Jigoro Kano
I have used this book often during my studies of the "Gentle Way." A general survey of all the basics of judo, originally written by the founder, Jigoro Kano, this tome contains descriptions and photographs of all the basic techniques and every kata. Besides this, you will find a history of judo, Kano-sensei's philosophy of how judo is a way of life and not just a sport or martial art, brief material on combination techniques, and some first aid.

Judo (Jujutsu) by Jigoro Kano
The Father of Judo: A Biography of Jigoro Kano by Brian Watson, Yukimitsu Kano
Karate
Karate-Do: My Way of Life by Gichin Funakoshi
The true martial genius of Funakoshi is presented in this book. A Shotokan Karate-ka, a martial artist of any other style, or a common person could equally benefit from reading this account of Funakoshi's life. I recommend this highly to anyone looking to improve themselves as a martial artist and as a person.

Kendo
A Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi
Everybody should read this book. That's all there is to it. Musashi takes the reader into a world filled to the brim with devotion, self-respect, disciplin, honesty and purity of thought. Even though this book was written by and for warriors and samurai, and in a completely different time and culture, it is a remarkabe source of inspiration for self-developement. Musashi's teachings are concise and to the point. He uses phrases like "you must understand this" and "you must practice diligently" and explains only general, but unquestionable and fundamental, concepts of the Way of the Warrior.

The Unfettered Mind: writings of the Zen master to the sword master by Takuan Soho
Bushido
Hagakure: the book of the Samurai by Yamamoto Tsunetomo
Truely this is the first book if have encountered so far that captures the essence of Bushido so well...most likely due to the fact that it was written by a samurai.
"No matter what it is, there is nothing that cannot be done. If one manifests the determination, he can move heaven and earth as he pleases. But because man is pluckless, he cannot set his mind to it. Moving heaven and earth without putting forth the effort is simply a matter of concentration."
